It is Everyone’s Responsibility to Keep Singapore Clean & Green
The National Environment Agency (NEA) held the launch ceremony for the Clean & Green Singapore Carnival at Wisma Geylang Serai in early November. Tzu Chi was invited to the event for the fourth consecutive year, and its efforts in environmental protection were displayed in the exhibition zone for public viewing.
The Clean & Green Singapore Carnival this year is designed to impart green knowledge in an interactive way. At the launch ceremony, PM Lee Hsien Loong urged the public to make protecting the environment part of their lives.
Mr. Lee Kuan Yew and his team looked beyond these immediate concerns, and they envisioned Singapore as a country that would be one of the cleanest and greenest cities in the world.
This is the fourth consecutive year Tzu Chi Singapore is invited to the event, which indicates the evolution of its role from a supporter to a cooperating partner.
TzuChi Volunteer Suzan Tan:
These few years, we have been given more opportunities to participate in such an event. We can see that they are more affirmative of us than before. We will be invited as a cooperating partner in the exhibition whenever they are holding the carnival.
Only when the temperature is above 27 degree Celsius, the fan will start to spin.
He or she can then decide whether or not to switch on the air conditioner.
Doing all these programmes, we hope we can encourage Singaporeans to use the air conditioner wisely.
This award winning devise is designed to help people use an air-conditioner wisely. It is invented by a group of teachers and students from Kranji Primary School. Although Tzu Chi volunteers were not involved in the invention, their tireless efforts have indirectly influenced the teachers and students.
They read about our Environmental Mission on our website. Their invention was inspired by the message: “by turning trash into gold, we can turn gold into loving hearts”, which they saw on the website.
It is everyone’s duty to look after the environment. By changing our daily habits, we can reduce the harm we impose on the environment.
